From July 18 to 25, 2026, the Jilin National Education Study Tour embarked on an enriching eight-day journey of discovery and learning. Traveling through Changchun, Changbai Mountain, Yanji, Tumen, and Hunchun, participating teachers and students thoroughly explored Jilin Province.

Through historical and cultural immersions, modern industrial tours, sister-school exchanges, ecological explorations, and structured thematic learning, students deepened their understanding of our nation’s heritage, culture, and rapid development. The breathtaking landscapes, unique local flavors, and diverse learning activities left an indelible impression on everyone involved.

Unearthing History and Inspiring Patriotic Commitment

Historical and cultural exploration formed the bedrock of the study tour. In Changchun, teachers and students visited the Museum of the Imperial Palace of Manchukuo and the Exhibition Hall of the History of Northeast China’s Occupation. Confronted by powerful exhibitions and historical artifacts, students gained a raw, first-hand understanding of a challenging chapter in our nation's past. The experience prompted deep reflection on the relationship between national destiny and individual responsibility, helping students bridge the gap between textbook history and the physical spaces before them, fostering a profound appreciation for the value of peace.

To complement these visits, the group held evening seminars that bridged literature and history:

The Power of Words: Miss Chan Pui Kam led a seminar titled  “The Mission of Literature in a Time of National Crisis.”  This session guided students to look through a literary lens to understand how writers historically responded to national crises, using their words to awaken public consciousness and express deep patriotism.

Reflecting on Modernization: Mr. Yeung Sing Po led a seminar on  “Chinese Modernisation.” Drawing from their daytime industrial visits and urban observations, students analyzed the multi-faceted meaning of progress.

In both sessions, students participated with exemplary focus and enthusiasm, transforming their daytime observations into deep, academic insights.

Witnessing Modern Industry and Technological Innovation

In Changchun, the cradle of Chinese industry, the delegation visited CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles and China’s First Automobile Works. Here, students observed cutting-edge rail transit and automotive manufacturing first-hand. These visits offered a brilliant classroom without walls, prompting students to connect high-tech manufacturing with daily life. Witnessing the scale of these operations helped students truly grasp the critical role industrial innovation plays in urban development and national strength.

Sowing the Seeds of Lifelong Sister-School Friendships

A crowning achievement of the tour occurred on July 20, when the teachers and the students visited the High School Attached to Northeast Normal University. In an inspiring exchange session, the two schools officially signed a sister-school agreement.

This milestone establishes a long-term bridge for collaborative growth. Through face-to-face interactions, our students gained a personal look into the academic and daily lives of their peers in Northeast China, laying the groundwork for lasting friendships. Rather than a one-off visit, this partnership will pave the way for future teacher-student exchanges, shared resources, and joint academic projects to sustain the benefits of this cross-regional connection.

Scaling Changbai Mountain and Exploring Border Geography

The itinerary seamlessly blended ecological appreciation with geographical discovery. The group scaled the northern scenic area of Changbai Mountain, marveling at the iconic Heaven Lake, the Julong Hot Springs, Changbai Waterfall, Luyuan Pool, and the Underground Forest. Immersed in these pristine landscapes, students expanded their knowledge of physical geography and reflected deeply on the vital importance of environmental conservation and sustainable development.

Their geographical journey culminated in Hunchun and Tumen. Visits to the Tumen border gate, Boundary Marker No. 86, and the Fangchuan Scenic Area (where the borders of China, Russia, and North Korea meet) gave students a direct, visceral understanding of national borders and unique geography.

Cultural Tapestry and Shared Growth

The vibrant local culture of Jilin came alive during visits to Changchun's Lianhua Island Film and Television City, the trendy  “The Hill” shopping complex, and the lively Yanji West Market. From watching intangible cultural heritage performances and fireworks at Enduli to exploring the Century-Old Village, students experienced the rich ethnic customs and daily life of the region through its sights, performances, and distinct culinary traditions.

Managing a packed, multi-city itinerary required immense coordination. The tour guide's exceptional professionalism and care ensured that every transition was seamless, earning warm praise from the delegation. Equal credit goes to our students, who demonstrated outstanding self-discipline, teamwork, and adaptability. Throughout the trip, they conducted themselves as true ambassadors of our school—orderly during visits and highly analytical during evening sessions. The tour concluded with a reflection and presentation session where students consolidated their findings, successfully turning their travel experiences into structured, intellectual achievements.

Key Takeaway & Future Outlook

The Jilin National Education Study Tour successfully synthesized history, culture, ethnic customs, ecology, and modern economics into a single, cohesive educational experience.

Students are highly encouraged to integrate their Jilin observations into their upcoming school projects and presentations. It is hoped they will carry this spirit of active exploration and thoughtful inquiry back into their daily classrooms, allowing this remarkable eight-day journey to inspire their academic and personal growth for years to come.
